How To Wean Off Benzodiazepine Slowly Without Any Side Effects?

I am concerned about possible Benzodiazepine withdrawal. In a hospital setting I was given 150-200 mg of Librium for 5 days, then cut back to 50mg for 1 day. My last dose was 7pm 5/12/15. it is now 5pm 5/14. Was that taper to quick? I have had w/d seizures from benzos before and am wondering if this could be the reason for my uneasy feeling and slight hand shakes.
Should I worry or seek medical attention? Any reply ASAP would be appreciated. My family is a nervous wreck

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Benzodiazepines are brain depressant drugs and regular prolonged use results in dependence to these drugs. When the drugs are stopped abruptly then there is risk of withdrawal. It can result in seizures, insomnia, anxiety, restlessness, tremors etc symptoms. So gradual tapering of doses is advised. In most cases with regular prolonged use the doses are reduced by about 20-25% every two weeks and then stopped completely at about 6-10 weeks. Your doses has been reduced in small period of time and in my opinion this is the probable reason for the side effects you are having. Slight uneasiness or shakiness in hands can be tolerate but if they increase in severity then please consult a doctor immediately.

Thanks, Take care
